Storytelling Performances & Public Speaking

Roots & Wings Life Stories’ Audrey Galex tells tales that touch the heart and tickle the funny bone. She has been a featured teller at storytelling festivals and a workshop leader at storytelling conferences. Audrey delights audiences of every age with stories that come from her zany family history and adventurous travel experiences. She loves to share tales from her Jewish heritage and from the cultures of the Middle East, as well as stories that highlight community history.

Audrey performs wherever stories can be told: from the classroom to the boardroom, in libraries, retirement communities, and museums. She’d even like to explore telling stories at spas and shopping malls! And she’d love to tell stories for you!

Audrey’s Story Performances and Public Speaking Programs Include:

Tapestry: An Arab-Jewish Storytelling Dialogue

In partnership with veteran storyteller B.J. Abraham, a program that weaves together stories, song and poetry in a celebration of the differences and similarities between their two cultures. (more info)

Excellent program for spiritual communities, diversity-training sessions and schools.

With this program of personal and folk stories, exploring their friendship as well as their respective Lebanese and Jewish ancestries, the tellers are building one of the struts of the bridge of reconciliation between these two peoples. I, for one, was moved and empowered by their efforts.” Milbre Burch, Internationally Renowned Storyteller

Yetta’s Journey and Sugie’s Tea Set

Each of these two poignant shows honors the stories we hand down, one generation to another.

Excellent programs for women’s groups and intergenerational settings.

Standing with the Enemy: A Camp David Accords Memory

This performance takes you from the crowded streets of Cairo to the forested mountains of Maryland, as Audrey weaves together her personal experiences as a college student in Egypt and the historical record of the 1978 Middle East peace plan.

Ideal for middle schoolers and older.

“I head many good comments from visitors about your story but also from Library staff (who are pretty hard to impress.) Your personal experiences and insights definitely brought the Camp David peace documents to life.”
Sonia Robinson, Fmr. Education Specialist, Jimmy Carter Library

Under the Red Tent

Enter the Red Tent, where women in biblical times wove their life stories. Experience folk tales and personal anecdotes focused on the traditions of the Middle East.

Consider this performance for a coming-of-age, croning, New Moon or mature women’s birthday celebration.

Silver-Haired Heroes

Listen up! Tales of folk and modern elder-heroes and heroines from many cultures. A celebration of seasoned citizens great for all ages.

“…the awesome work you are doing is an exceptional gift to people in this leg of life’s journey.”…
Leland Draper
The Draper Forum, Financial Assistant to Seniors

StorySpring: A Mother-Daughter Story Project

There’s magic and mayhem when Audrey and her daughter, Maayan, take the stage. Stories of strong women and those who support them! Great for girls of all ages!

Stories for Leaders/Stories for Team-Building

What does it take to be an effective leader, as well as a valuable team player? This program combines stories and activities that inspire and enhance team-building and leadership development.

Your Story on Stage

Audrey creates a performance based on one or many stories, tailored to your interest. A powerful way to make any topic come alive!

SOS: Save Our Stories by Sharing Our Stories

Audrey’s talks are upbeat and down-home. She’ll wake-‘em-up at a business breakfast. She’ll lift their spirits after lunch. She’ll give the humorous, yet deeply moving, keynote they’ll talk about for years. The message: don’t forget to remember! Tell your stories, before it’s too late. Leave a legacy of love to those you hold dear. It’s news you can use and, like all Roots & Wings services, this program is tailored to your audience and interests.
